Floral Bookish Ghost Embroidery

Fall is the coziest time of year – and while any time is the perfect time to curl up with a book, Fall seems like an especially perfect time to curl up with a good book! I’ve put together my love for Fall and reading in this darling Floral Bookish Ghost Embroidery.

This embroidery design is so much fun to stitch, and it’s the perfect time of year to do it! I designed this sweet little ghost all surrounded by flowers and fall leaves and holding a book – and of course she’s saying “Boooooks”!

I stitched up the design on one of my Dainty Daisy low-volume prints, the Honey on Cloud. The little gold flowers and speckles make a great background for the fall colors in the stitch. I used sweet fall colors but I had to add in some pinks too – because all holidays should have some extra pink in them don’t you think?

If you need stitching or transferring instructions, check out my YouTube series!

Instructions:

  1. Transfer the embroidery design onto your fabric.
  2. Stitch out the design using 3 strands of floss for all stitching.
    • a. Use DMC 310 and stitch the outline of the ghost with a back stitch. Fill in the curves at the bottom of the ghost with a layered back stitch. Stitch the hands and mouth with a back stitch and the eyes with a satin stitch.
    • b. Use DMC 163 and stitch the leaves with a satin stitch. Stitch the lettering with a back stitch.
    • c. Use DMC 761, 721, 3712 and 815 to stitch the leaves and flowers around the ghost. Use the pattern for the color placement guide. Stitch everything with a satin stitch, working from the centers out for the flowers. Fill in the centers of the flowers with French Knots in contrasting colors to the flowers.
  3. Make sure the fabric is nice and tight in the hoop. Trim the extra fabric to 1/2″ outside the edge of the hoop. Glue the fabric to the inside of the wooden hoop, taking care that the fabric doesn’t touch the wrong side of the fabric in the hoop.
  4. If adding trim, glue to the back side of the wooden hoop.

So fun right?? I love it and I can’t wait to see your versions!
